Cognac has to be made in a very, very specific way for France to even let it be called ‘cognac’.
And yet, to distil a cognac for customers who prefer spirits on the smoother side (ahem, Americans), Martell changed a very traditional, very specific part of their finishing process.
And France did not take that well.
